The Benton Lake Wetland Management District contains 23 Waterfowl Production Areas (WPAs) totaling over 16,000 acres. These WPAs are scattered throughout 8 counties (Cascade, Choteau, Glacier, Hill, Pondera, Powell, Teton, Toole) and include many great hunting locations and bird watching sites. To find a Waterfowl Production Area near you, view the local area map provided for each WPA or use this interactive map.
As with any outdoor activity, please come prepared for weather conditions. Our Waterfowl Production Areas are unimproved natural landscapes with diverse terrain and no facilities. Bring everything you need for the day, including sunscreen, water, insect repellent, proper footwear, etc. We recommend that you pack bear spray when visiting the Blackfoot, H2-O, Jarina, Upsata Lake, Kleinschmidt, or Savik WPAs , as grizzly bears are common in these areas. We also recommend wearing blaze orange during hunting season.
Note: In order to protect the privacy of Montana landowners, we do not publish the locations of our Conservation Easements on our website. Easement lands are private property and access remains under the control of the landowner.
