Research Project: Biotechnology Research and Development Corporation (Brdc) Project Number: 0500-00035-003-00
Project Type: Appropriated

Start Date: Feb 22, 2006
End Date: Feb 21, 2011

Objective:
To achieve scientific breakthroughs upon which technologically more efficient bioproduction systems can be based that are capable of producing a greater diversity of useful products from agricultural commodities.

Approach:
Such systems as anaerobic, mixed culture, and continuous fermentation and fluidized beds of immobilized enzymes will be investigated in search of advances in bioprocessing efficiency and novel bioconversions. Diverse microbes and enzymes from there will be investigated for their usefulness in these systems, as will innovative sensors and process controls and separation and harvesting methods. Congressionally mandated project. Replaces 0500-00035-002-00D (400279). Extending Start and Term dates from 02/22/01 - 02/21/2006 for an additional 5 years (klj).
