Research Project: An International Assessment of the Sources, Flows, and Economic Consequences of Agriclutural Germplasm Project Number: 0210-22310-002-65
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Sep 30, 2003
End Date: Sep 29, 2008

Objective:
Assess the extent, pattern, value, and sources of commercially relevant varietal improvements in rice and wheat.

Approach:
Identify the detailed pattern of varietal use among the world's principal wheat and rice producing countries for the period 1970-2000. Assemble location - and season-specific experminetal yield evidence at a varietal level to estimate varietal yield premiums. Using pedigree histories, identify the geographical and, where possible, institutional sources of these varietal changes. Use a range of genetic attribution rules to partition the overall country-specific benefits among local and out of country sources.
