Addressing Monitoring Requirements in the 2012 Planning Rule
Francis Marion National Forest Monitoring Reports
**Public Notice of Delay of FY 2021 and 2022 Francis Marion National Forest Plan Biennial Monitoring Report**
In accordance with the requirements of 36 CFR 219.12(d)(1)(iii), the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests are hereby providing notice that the biennial monitoring evaluation report (BMER) for the Francis Marion National Forest will be postponed for a year. A BMER reporting on information gathered during Fiscal Years 2021 and 2022 was scheduled to be completed in Fiscal Year 2023. However, the management team of the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests has decided to implement a review and update of the monitoring programs for the forests. The BMER due this year is being postponed to facilitate completion of this review by the forests’ staff.
The goals of the review are to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the monitoring programs for the Francis Marion and Sumter. We expect to do this by better aligning monitoring efforts between the Francis Marion and the Sumter and focusing monitoring efforts in areas that will provide the greatest benefit for informing land management activities on the forests. If you have any questions regarding this information please contact Patrick Yamnik, Environmental Coordinator, patrick.yamnik@usda.gov.
