Banking Studies: Small Business Lending in the U.S.

Annually, the Office of Advocacy provides a review of lending activities of commercial banks and other depository institutions based on two types of data that lenders report to their regulating agenciesthe Consolidated Reports of Condition and Income (Call Reports starting in June 1994) and the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA starting in 1998) reports.

Beginning in 2005 the data has been expanded to include savings banks and savings and loans associations, in addition to commercial banks. Geographic coverage has been expanded to include American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. (Years of analysis extend back to June 2003.)
