Fact Sheet: Extension of Comment Period for Notice of Data Availability

EPA 821-F-03-013

EPA extends the comment period on the Notice of Data Availability for the proposed wastewater discharge standards for the meat and poultry processing industry.

Background

On August 13, 2003, EPA published a Notice of Data Availability for the effluent limitations guidelines and standards for the meat and poultry products (MPP) point source category. The notice presented a summary of new data and described how EPA might use the data to develop final MPP regulations. EPA provided a 45-day comment period for the Notice of Data Availability. The comment period was scheduled to end on September 29, 2003. EPA reviewed several requests to extend the public comment. To ensure that the public has an adequate opportunity to review and comment on the new information, EPA is extending the comment period to October 14, 2003.
