Rachel Ponder - Contract Photojournalist

Rachel Ponder

Ponder joined the APG News staff as a contract photojournalist in January 2008. This is her first job as a photojournalist since graduating college in 2007. She received a Bachelors of Arts in public communication and a Bachelors of Science in business administration at Columbia Union College, Washington, D.C., earning cum laude in both degrees.

While attending college, Ponder worked in the Marketing and Communications Office for the school, where she wrote news articles for the school's Web site, photographed campus events and produced a weekly newsletter. In 2007 she was the Media Relations Director for Tastes of Takoma, a student-planned community event sponsored by the school. That same year, she was awarded Best Public Relations Research Project and Best Photo Showing Action by her college's communication department.

Ponder was also an active member of several honors clubs on campus. In her freshman year she was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the national honor society for freshman, and was selected to join Who's Who Among Students, an honors program. In her junior year she joined Alpha Chi, which is limited to the top 10 percent of an institution's juniors and seniors. She was also a member of the Columbia Collegiate Chorale, and had the unique opportunity to sing with her choir at Carnegie Hall in 2004. Ponder's childhood was spent living in rural parts of Oklahoma, where she developed an early love for reading and writing. Her love for writing continued into her adulthood; she plans to pursue a career in the publishing industry.

Blosse joined the APG News staff as a contract graphic designer and photographer with the Baltimore Sun Media Group in July 2013.

Blosse received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004 where she lived and worked for 13 years. She also holds a 2013 Graphic Design certificate from the Community College of Baltimore County in Baltimore.

While in school, Blosse was an active member of the National Art Honors Society and her work was displayed at several group gallery shows. In addition, she received a 2010 Chicago Innovation Award for a special marking system she designed for a custom silicone mold library.

Blosse said she developed her gift of drawing at a young age. She has designed custom signs and displays for every position she’s held and says that after her Chicago schooling, a job with an engraver influenced her passion for layout and design.
