MDBP Technical Guidances

Technical Guidances for Implementation of the Microbial and Disinfection Byproducts Rules

These guidance manuals support the Interim Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule and the Stage 1 Disinfectants/Disinfection Byproducts Rule. The manuals will aid EPA, State agencies and affected public water systems in implementing the two interrelated rules, and will help to ensure that implementation among these groups is consistent. Unless otherwise noted, files are less than 800k.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the Adobe PDF files on this page. See EPA's PDF page for more information about getting and using the free Acrobat Reader.

Disinfection profile/CT spreadsheet
   April 2001

* Note to users of previous versions of the spreadsheet: Spreadsheets downloaded PRIOR to April 2001 give a divide by zero error in calculations during months with less than 31 days. It is recommended that you use the current version of the spreadsheet provided below.

  • The following Excel spreadsheets can be used to calculate a 12-month profile of Giardia or virus inactivation levels achieved with the use of Free Chlorine, Chloramines, Chlorine Dioxide, and/or Ozone. These spreadsheets begin with the month of April and end in March, as this was the regulatory timeframe for required profiling under the IESWTR. Systems which have performed one year of monitoring (April 2000 - March 2001) to comply with disinfection profiling requirements only need to use the non-leap year file. Systems which are also using historical data to create their profile will also need to use the leap year version for the April 1999 - March 2000 timeframe to account for the 29-day February in 2000. Further information on how to use the spreadsheet is provided in the file.

(Download Excel spreadsheet)    (Download Excel spreadsheet for leap year)

The Utah Department of Environmental Quality has also developed a spreadsheet for calculating a disinfection profile. For more information, click here. Exit EPA Disclaimer
