Effluent Guidelines

Notice of Data Availability for the Commercial Hazardous Waste Combustor Subcategory of the Waste Combustors Point Source Category

Fact Sheet

EPA-821-F-99-011, April 1999

Summary

EPA is publishing a Notice of Data Availability for the Proposed Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Pretreatment Standards ("effluent guidelines") for the Industrial Waste Combustor Subcategory of the Waste Combustors Point Source Category. The Notice provides a summary of new data received following proposal of the effluent guidelines on February 6, 1998 (63 FR 6391). EPA solicits comments on the new data.

Applicability of Proposed Rule

EPA proposed effluent guidelines for Industrial Waste Combustor facilities, defined as commercially-operating hazardous or non-hazardous industrial waste combustors. Under the proposed rule, industrial waste combustor facilities would be required to achieve concentration-based limitations for air pollution control wastewater, slag quench and flue gas quench produced as a result of their combustion operations. Other wastewaters generated as a result of combustion operations would not be regulated under the proposed rule.

Summary of the New Data

The Notice of Data Availability summarizes data EPA received in early 1999 from three Industrial Waste Combustor facilities. The new data consist primarily of influent and effluent concentrations. EPA uses such data to characterize the performance of wastewater treatment systems. EPA solicits comments regarding the new data. The comment period will close 30 days after publication.
